Business Summary

Pure Glow operates upscale and uniquely styled studios that offer custom, organic airbrush tanning services, designed to look natural, last longer, and fade beautifully. In addition to tanning, Pure Glow also provides related skincare, tanning, and bronzing retail products. The studios offer various tanning services, including face-only, partial body, and full body tans, as well as service packages and monthly memberships. These studios typically range from 800 to 1,200 square feet and are located in upscale retail settings.

Corporate History

The Pure Glow brand and concept originated in January 2015 when Lauren Rampello Becotte founded and became CEO of the Parent and Affiliate-owned Pure Glow studios in Boston, Massachusetts. PGFC LLC, the franchisor entity, was formed on June 15, 2023, as a Massachusetts limited liability company. A predecessor entity, Pure Glow Franchise Inc., had previously offered franchises briefly from June 2019 to August 2019. PGFC LLC began offering franchises in August 2023, leveraging the established Pure Glow studio model.

Financial Health Notes

Pure Glow's financial condition, as reflected in its financial statements, raises questions about its ability to provide services and support to franchisees, according to a specific risk factor. As of December 31, 2024, the company had a deficit of $532,050 in members' equity. While Pure Glow collected $582,500 in cash from franchise sales during 2024, this revenue was deferred, meaning it was not recognized as income during that year. Had these locations opened and the associated revenue been recognized, the deficit would have been reduced.

Financing Details

Pure Glow does not offer any direct or indirect financing to its franchisees. It also does not guarantee any notes, leases, or other financial obligations for franchisees.

Renewal Conditions

To renew their Pure Glow franchise agreement, franchisees must provide written notice of their election to renew between 9 and 12 months before the current term expires. They must pay Pure Glow a Successor Franchise Fee equal to 25% of the then-current initial franchise fee. Franchisees and their affiliates must not be in default under their agreements, and they must have the right to remain in possession of the premises (or another approved location). Additionally, franchisees are required to renovate and update their Pure Glow Studio to reflect the brand's then-current image and standards, correct any existing deficiencies, satisfy all current System Standards (including new products or services), meet Pure Glow's qualifications for new franchisees, and complete any required additional training and certifications. Finally, franchisees and their owners must sign Pure Glow's standard form of general release.

Training & Support Program

Franchisor Assistance

Pure Glow provides comprehensive support to its franchisees. Before opening, Pure Glow helps with site selection by providing guidelines and criteria, and it approves the proposed site. It also provides mandatory and suggested specifications for studio design, including layouts, décor, fixtures, and color schemes, and reviews construction plans. Franchisees receive a list of required products, supplies, and materials to purchase, and Pure Glow authorizes the studio's opening. It also provides marketing and promotional guidelines for the grand opening plan and access to a confidential operations manual. Initial training is provided for the franchisee (or Operating Principal) and General Manager. After opening, Pure Glow administers and spends funds from the Brand Fund for advertising and promotional purposes and provides ongoing marketing and promotional guidelines. It may change or modify the System and Manual, requiring franchisees to integrate new services or products. Pure Glow also offers additional training, provides ongoing advice and consultation through various materials and meetings, maintains lists of Approved and Designated Suppliers, and conducts regular site inspections. It may also establish pricing guidelines for services and products.

Ongoing Support

After opening, Pure Glow provides continuous advice and consultation to franchisees through its operations manual, bulletins, electronic media, meetings, seminars, conferences, and phone or in-person conversations. Franchisees and their personnel may be required to attend and satisfactorily complete various ongoing training courses, including periodic conventions, regional meetings, and conferences, for which reasonable fees may be charged. Pure Glow also mandates attendance at online training programs. Field representatives conduct regular visits to Pure Glow Studios at least once a year to review operations, marketing, safety, finance, and maintenance. These visits include a report and score to ensure compliance with required standards.

Franchise Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

Pure Glow is looking for franchisees who are committed to personally participating and assisting in managing the day-to-day operations of their studio, especially during the first year, serving as the Studio General Manager. Beyond the first year, if a General Manager is appointed, they must meet Pure Glow's qualifications and complete the Initial Training Program, devoting full-time efforts to management. Franchisees (or their Operating Principals) are expected to have experience in the spa industry or be prepared to retain a General Manager who does.

During the first year, the Operating Principal must serve as the Studio General Manager. After the first year, if a General Manager is appointed, they must have completed Pure Glow's Initial Training Program and meet the company's standards, dedicating full-time efforts to the studio's management.
