Financial Health Notes

Men In Kilts' parent company, HS Group Holding Company, LLC, reported a consolidated net loss of approximately $13 million for the year ended December 31, 2024. The company has significant negative working capital, indicating that its current liabilities are substantially higher than its current assets. A large portion of its long-term debt, including a balloon payment, is due by December 23, 2025, and management is actively negotiating an extension with the lender. Additionally, the company restated its members' equity at the beginning of 2024 to correct a prior misstatement, resulting in a decrease of nearly $1.9 million. These factors suggest potential financial challenges for Men In Kilts' parent company.

Financing Details

Men In Kilts offers financing exclusively for the initial franchise fee. Qualified franchisees may finance up to the full $38,000 initial franchise fee through a promissory note. This note requires monthly installments for up to 24 months and charges an annual interest rate of 12%. The franchisee's owners must also guarantee the payment of all amounts under the promissory note. Men In Kilts does not offer any other financing, such as for equipment or working capital.

Franchisor Assistance

Men In Kilts provides franchisees with a range of assistance. Before opening, Men In Kilts designates the franchise territory, offers input on location selection (though the franchisee selects the site), and provides standards and specifications for various business items like insurance, vehicles, and uniforms. Franchisees also receive an initial training program and access to operations manuals and employee training materials. After opening, Men In Kilts provides examples of advertising materials, guidance on administrative, bookkeeping, accounting, and general operating procedures. Franchisees also receive reasonable telephone and email support, various forms and templates, website and business profile management support services (for a fee), and call-routing services (for a fee).

Ongoing Support

After opening, Men In Kilts franchisees receive ongoing support through various channels. This includes reasonable telephone and email assistance for operating issues, access to updated forms and templates, and website and business profile management support services (for which fees apply). Franchisees also pay for call-routing services. Men In Kilts may offer or require franchisees and their managers to attend additional training programs or conferences, for which registration fees may apply. On-site training can also be provided at the franchisee's location, for which the franchisee must cover expenses and an hourly rate for Men In Kilts personnel.

Franchise Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile

Men In Kilts seeks hands-on franchisees or Operating Principals who will directly supervise the business full-time, dedicating their best efforts to its operation. Candidates, or their Operating Principals, must successfully complete the initial training program. If the franchisee is an entity, the Operating Principal must own a majority interest in the business. General Managers, if employed, also require approval and completion of initial training. Territory Size Requirements

Each Men In Kilts franchise territory is a defined geographical area containing approximately 100,000 'Qualified Households' at the time the franchise is granted. A 'Qualified Household' is defined as a household with a gross annual income exceeding $100,000. The number of these households within a territory is determined using census data and customer analytic profiling.

Staffing Notes

The Men In Kilts franchisee or their Operating Principal, if the franchisee is a business entity, must directly supervise the business at all times and dedicate full-time effort to its operation. Any General Manager must be approved by Men In Kilts and must successfully complete the Initial Training Program before they can manage the franchised business. Men In Kilts franchisees are solely responsible for all employee-related decisions, including hiring, wages, benefits, hours, scheduling, firing, discipline, supervision, and record-keeping. Men In Kilts emphasizes that it is not a 'joint employer' of the franchisee's employees and does not control personnel policies.
