Business Summary

Jimmy John's operates restaurants that specialize in gourmet deli sandwiches, fresh-baked breads, and other food and beverage products. These restaurants typically operate in strip shopping centers, malls, and free-standing units, offering carry-out, delivery, and on-premises dining services.

Corporate History

Jimmy John's Franchisor SPV, LLC was established on June 12, 2017, and commenced offering franchises for JIMMY JOHN'S® Restaurants in July 2017. The franchise system's roots, however, trace back to its predecessor, Jimmy John's Franchise, LLC (JJF), which operated as the franchisor from 1993 until the securitization transaction in July 2017. An affiliate, Jimmy John's Enterprises, LLC (JJE), has been operating JIMMY JOHN'S® Restaurants since 1983. In October 2019, Inspire Brands, Inc. acquired Jimmy John's LLC, integrating it as an indirect parent company. All existing U.S. franchise agreements were transferred to Jimmy John's Franchisor SPV, LLC as part of this restructuring.

Renewal Conditions

To renew a Jimmy John's franchise, franchisees must provide timely notice, maintain possession of their restaurant premises or secure an acceptable substitute, and agree to remodel their restaurant to meet Jimmy John's current standards, regardless of the cost. They must also pay a successor franchise fee, satisfy all current training requirements, and sign the then-current franchise agreement and other required documents, including a general release if allowed by state law. These conditions are contingent on the franchisee and their owners having substantially complied with the franchise agreement and operated the restaurant in full compliance with Brand Standards throughout the initial term.

Training & Support Program

Franchisor Assistance

Jimmy John's provides assistance to franchisees both before and during the operation of their restaurants. Prior to opening, Jimmy John's helps with market area analysis and site feasibility (but not site selection), accepts the restaurant's lease terms, and provides mandatory and suggested design specifications and layouts. It identifies required operating assets and suppliers, grants access to the confidential operations manual, and offers advice for grand opening events. Initial training programs are provided for the Operations Partner and on-site managers, including a 3-week program and a 4-week apprenticeship. A representative assists on-site for a specified number of hours during the initial opening period. Ongoing support includes guidance and recommendations based on reports or inspections, additional guidance if requested, continuous access to the confidential operations manual and Brand Standards, regular audits and inspections, and the administration of an Advertising and Development Fund for marketing. Jimmy John's also offers new training courses periodically and permits the use of its confidential information and trademarks.

Additionally, franchisees are required to actively participate in any designated JIMMY JOHN'S® Regional Advisory Franchisee Councils, contributing to council assessments.

Staffing Notes

For a Jimmy John's Restaurant, a minimum of ten full shifts each week must be covered by certified managers. During the first twelve months of operation, a first-time franchisee's first restaurant requires fourteen full shifts per week to be covered by certified managers. A 'full' shift runs from one hour before opening to shift change, or from shift change to ten minutes after closing. The Operations Partner for a first or second restaurant must work a minimum of five consecutive 'half' shifts per week, each on a different day. All certified managers and customer-facing employees are required to be fluent in English. Jimmy John's Brand Standards may further specify minimum staffing levels, certified manager training, and uniform dress codes.
