Renewal Conditions

To renew their franchise agreement, Huntington Learning Center franchisees must provide written notice of their intent to renew between 180 and 240 days before the agreement ends. Franchisees must not have received any default notices in the 12 months before expiration, nor three or more notices within any 12-month period, or four or more total default notices. They must have timely met all financial obligations to the franchisor and its affiliates, completed all required training, upgraded the business to current brand standards, and complied with all insurance and lease requirements. The franchisee must also have a lease for the premises for at least 36 months, meet a minimum Gross Revenue of $350,000 from Huntington Services and eTutoring in the 12 months prior to renewal notice, provide their profit and loss statement and balance sheet for the preceding year, and sign a general release. A nonrefundable renewal fee of $6,000 (or $18,000 for a Territory) is also required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Huntington Learning Center is looking for a Primary Owner who is a natural person with an ownership interest in the franchise. This individual must be fluent in English and be responsible for managing the business. For the first two years after opening, the Primary Owner must work full-time, year-round, during all business hours, and not hold any other full-time or part-time job. The ideal candidate must be strongly committed, personally involved in all aspects of the business, able to organize it to meet brand standards, and capable of performing all marketing, sales, operations, management, personnel, and maintenance functions.

Territory Size Requirements

Huntington Learning Center grants New Franchisees an Exclusive Area, which is typically a circular geographic area centered on the premises with a radius between zero and three miles. However, metropolitan and low-income areas are usually excluded, and the radius might be zero in densely populated or low-income areas, as determined by the franchisor.

Staffing Notes

Huntington Learning Center requires franchisees to be solely responsible for hiring and training their employees. All teachers must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college. Teachers must complete the franchisor's teacher training program within 90 days of hiring or before performing any related activities. If a Learning Center teacher does not have state teacher certification, they must complete the franchisor's teacher certification program. All teachers must be competent in using the franchisor's software. Additional requirements can be imposed for eTutoring teachers, covering aspects like the appearance of their physical location, video background, technology used, and dress.
