Litigation Summary
Goosehead Insurance has a history of litigation, including both past resolved cases and currently pending actions. In the past, Goosehead Insurance sued a former franchisee, Williams Insurance, in 2019 for operating a competing business. This case was eventually dismissed, and the parties reached a settlement where Goosehead Insurance purchased the franchisee's book of business. Currently, Goosehead Insurance has two active lawsuits. One is against a former franchisee, Guillory Pittman Insurance Agency, LLC, and related parties, filed in 2024. Goosehead Insurance is seeking to enforce non-competition, non-solicitation, and confidentiality obligations, and a temporary restraining order was granted in August 2024. The former franchisee has filed a counterclaim alleging breach of contract and unfair trade practices. The second pending action is against another former franchisee, Richie Heumann, Inc., initiated in 2023. Goosehead Insurance terminated their agreement due to alleged unethical practices and has counterclaimed for breach of contract, negligence, gross negligence, and tortious interference. The former franchisee is suing Goosehead Insurance for wrongful termination. Additionally, during its last fiscal year (2024), Goosehead Insurance initiated 10 lawsuits against former franchisees primarily to collect unpaid fees and royalties after termination.
